Race organizers for the Berlin Marathon announced that a world record 54,280 people finished the race in Germany on Sunday.

Cybrian Kotut was the lone Kenyan to make the podium, finishing 2nd in 2:03:22, good for No. 20 all-time performer — testament to the explosion on the ATL in recent years. Fifteen of the men ahead of Kotut ran their PRs in or after April of ’19.

Ethiopians Milkesa Mengesha and Tigist Ketema have won the men’s and women’s races in the 50th edition of the Berlin Marathon on Sunday.

The 50th Berlin marathon saw a series of Ethiopian athletes clinch medals, including Milkesa Mengesha who won the men's race with a time of just over 2 hours 3 minutes. Fellow Ethiopian Tigist Ketema won the women's race.

Milkesa Mengesha crossed the finish line in 2:03:17 after 42.129km, beating Kenya's Cybrian Kotut and Ethiopia's Haymaonot Alew, while Tigist Ketema won the women's race in 2:16:41 at Berlin Marathon on Sunday.
