Days of heavy monsoon rains in Nepal have triggered widespread flooding and landslides across the Himalayan nation, killing almost 200 people and causing widespread destruction.

Nepalese authorities said Monday that at least 193 people have been killed and more than 100 injured In Nepal after the Himalayan nation was hit by major floods and landslides at the weekend.

Many of the deaths were in the capital Kathmandu which got heavy rainfall and much of southern part of the city was flooded.

A number of roads have been flooded and rail services disrupted as heavy rain hits north-west England. The Met Office has issued a yellow warning of heavy rain across the region. Merseyside Police said it had put temporary closures in place in the Seaforth Road and Knowsley Road area in Bootle.

People living near rivers should unfortunately stay on alert today, with dozens of flood warnings across England. In total, 33 red warnings where flooding is expected were in place and 74 yellow alerts where flooding is possible were in place last night,
