The F.B.I. is investigating messages that told people they would be deported or transported to a “re-education camp.” They came after racist texts were sent to Black people.

The FBI says that a new wave of offensive and racist texts is targeting Hispanic and LGBTQIA students, saying they’ve been selected for deportation or re-education camps. The messages reached some Los Angeles Unified School District students,

The announcement comes days after African American students received similar messages stating they’d been selected to "pick cotton."

(Reuters) - The U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation said on Friday that a spate of offensive text messages sent out in the wake of Donald Trump's presidential election win and apparently aimed at Black Americans had expanded to target Hispanic and LGBTQ people.

The FBI is investigating a wave of hateful texts and emails targeting Hispanic and LGBTQ communities, following last week’s racist text surge aimed at Black Americans. Messages include threats of deportation and “re-education camps,” with reports spanning multiple cities, including New York, Houston, and Los Angeles.

Channel 2 Action News previously reported on racist text messages being sent to young Black people across the country, including in metro Atlanta.

The original texts were sent out a day after the election to African American and Black communities, saying they were chosen to pick cotton.

The announcement comes days after African American students received similar messages stating they’d been selected to "pick cotton."

The FBI says reports are growing of racist and offensive text messages sent from anonymous phone numbers to high school students, Latinos and members of the LGBTQ community. It comes as the agency began investigating offensive messages sent to Black Americans last week.
