Rwanda is dealing with its first-ever outbreak of the Marburg virus. It's related to Ebola and has a mortality rate as high as 88%. What do disease experts say about the global risk?

A similar vaccine, being developed at the University of Oxford, UK, was also named as a priority for testing during a Marburg outbreak. Teresa Lambe, a vaccinologist at Oxford leading the Marburg vaccine’s development, says that the vaccine has so far proven safe in the handful of participants who have received it in an ongoing UK trial.

Five more people in Rwanda have died of the deadly Ebola-like Marburg disease, bringing the number of fatalities to 11, the health ministry said late Tuesday.
