The National Hurricane Center expects a low pressure system in the western Caribbean Sea to end up as another tropical storm in the Gulf of Mexico.

Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine has formed in the western Caribbean Sea. This tropical disturbance is forecast to become a tropical storm within the next day or two as it moves northwest towards the Gulf of Mexico.

Just days after Hurricane Helene made landfall, the National Hurricane Center is warning residents on the Gulf Coast to monitor another tropical system.

Hurricane Helene will likely form by Wednesday morning as it moves past the western tip of Cuba and the northeastern tip of the Cancun peninsula. From here, Hurricane Helene will continue to strengthen as it moves across the eastern Gulf of Mexico.

Helene was a Category 1 hurricane in the Caribbean Sea Wednesday morning Eastern time, the National Hurricane Center said in its latest advisory. The hurricane had sustained wind speeds of 80 miles per hour.
