A new tropical threat has emerged in the Gulf of Mexico as Tropical Depression Fourteen has formed and is expected to become a hurricane by Monday. It could reach major hurricane status before making landfall on the west coast of Florida as early as Wednesday morning.

A disturbance in the Gulf of Mexico has formed into a tropical depression, according to the National Hurricane Center in Miami. Forecasters will begin issuing advisories at 10 a.m. The system will likely bring heavy rains to portions of Mexico over the next day or two and dump rain on Florida late this weekend through mid-week.

The National Weather Service has officially declared Invest 92-L as Tropical Depression Fourteen. It is a depression right now rather than a storm because the sustained winds are less than 39mph.
