National Hurricane Center increases the chance of tropical development in the Gulf of Mexico
The chance of tropical development in the Gulf of Mexico continues to increase. The National Hurricane Center says there is a 70% chance of a named storm forming over the next 7 days. The next named storm will be Milton. There's a good chance that a tropical depression or Tropical Storm Milton forms late this weekend or early next week.

An area of low pressure located over the southwestern Gulf of Mexico is broad and ill-defined Saturday. Development of this system is expected, and a tropical or subtropical depression or storm is likely to form this weekend or early next week while moving eastward or northeastward across the Gulf of Mexico.
