It was a good-length ball outside off, and Kohli was looking to drive it on the up but chopped it off a thick under-edge next to the pitch. What followed was a big mix-up; as Kohli started to run, he found himself stranded halfway down the pitch. Khaled Ahmed charged in, got the ball, and only needed to run up to the stumps and take the bails off.

Virat Kohli would have been easily run out in the third session on Day 4 but bowler Khaled Ahmed messed up one of the simplest chances in cricket history. He had all the stumps to aim at from a very close distance but could not affect the run out.

The incident occurred in the 18th over of India's first innings when Kohli played a ball from Khaled Ahmed and took off for a quick single after a call from Pant at the non-striker's end. But the ball ended up close to the bowler on his follow-through which Pant saw and immediately stopped running, shouting at Kohli to go back to his crease.
