Republican former baseball star Steve Garvey was defeated by Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff on Tuesday in the race for the California U.S. Senate seat long held by the late Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein.

Rep. Adam Schiff quickly soared to victory in California’s U.S. Senate race Tuesday, coming out ahead of former Dodgers star Steve Garvey. The contest was called by the Associated Press and other news organizations as soon as the polls closed in California.
