"State Bank of India (SBI) vide its letter dated October 1, 2024, has informed that Term Loan Accounts Number 36726658903 of MTNL has changed to NPA - Sub Standard category with effect September 28, 2024, due to non-payment of interest and instalment," MTNL was quoted as saying by PTI.

The State Bank of India has downgraded MTNL's term loan account to NPA effective from September 28, citing non-payment of interest and installment. MTNL shared the letter from SBI that stated the total outstanding in the account at over Rs 325.

Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd. (MTNL) has defaulted on a loan to State Bank of India (SBI), leading to its classification as a Non-Performing Asset. SBI demands immediate payment and warns of potential legal action if dues remain unpaid.

SBI has also sought MTNL's response to media reports where it is stated that government will pay MTNL dues, and the Department of Telecom assured there will be no default.

Several banks have taken action against MTNL for non-payment of dues, including Punjab National Bank and Union Bank
