M&M, Trent, Tech Mahindra, HDFC Bank and Eicher Motors are among the top gainers on the Nifty, while losers are SBI Life Insurance, HDFC Life, Reliance Industries, Tata Consumer and Hindalco.

Stock exchanges will be shut on Wednesday on account of elections in Maharashtra. Voting will begin from 7 am in Maharashtra's 288 assembly constituencies.

The BSE Sensex jumped 325 points or 0.42 per cent at 77,664 level. NSE's Nifty50 rose 75 points or 0.32 per cent at 23,529 level in pre-opening trade. The BSE Sensex surged 210 points higher or 0.27 per cent at 77,549 level in pre-opening deals.

Indian benchmark indices Nifty 50 and Sensex ended the previous trade session in the red. Nifty 50 closed at 23,453.80, while Sensex ended at 77,339.01. Overnight, Wall Street indices ended paused their losing streak.

Infosys, Reliance Industries, HDFC Bank, Mahindra & Mahindra and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) contributed most to the Sensex rise today. Tata Motors and M&M rose over 2 per cent each and led the Sensex gainers.

Gift Nifty picked up momentum to trade at 23,526, up by 0.4%. On the other hand, Asian stocks traded mixed with South Korean index KOSPI skyrocketing by 2.3% as Samsung shares jumps on buyback plan.
