Charles Dumont, who has died aged 95, was a jobbing song-writer who hit the jackpot when, with the lyricist Michel Vaucaire, he composed Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien (“No, I Regret Nothing”) for Edith Piaf.

A trumpeter by training, Dumont's career transformed when he convinced Edith Piaf to perform one of his compositions, after she had turned him down several times.

Charles Dumont, who composed Édith Piaf’s biggest hit, “Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien,” has died at age 95. Dumont’s wife told French news agency Agence France-Presse Monday that he had died overnight in Paris.
