In Ventura County Community College District Area 4, Joe Piechowski had 16,763 votes, just under 36.2% of the total, in the tallies released by the county by 10:33 p.m. Tuesday, sneaking ahead of incumbent Bernardo Perez, who had 16,535 votes, or 35.7%. Ruth Luevanos was a few thousand votes behind with 13,072, or 28.2%.

Nearly 50 Ventura County school board seats will be filled during this Nov. 5 general election, representing more than 150,000 students from transitional kindergarten through community college.
