The odds of tropical development in the Gulf of Mexico are now high during the next seven days just over a week after Helene pushed through the region, but this system will mainly be a rainmaker for Florida.

An area of low pressure located over the southwestern Gulf of Mexico is broad and ill-defined Saturday. Development of this system is expected, and a tropical or subtropical depression or storm is likely to form this weekend or early next week while moving eastward or northeastward across the Gulf of Mexico.
